Visa Information
Getting your visa (or permit) for Bhutan is a simple process that brings you one step closer to experiencing the magic of our kingdom.

Who Needs a Visa?
All visitors, except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, require a visa to enter Bhutan. (Specific requirements for citizens of these countries are detailed below.)

Key Fees:
  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): US$100 per day per adult. (This fee contributes to Bhutan's sustainable development initiatives. Concessionary rates are available for children.)
  • Visa Application Fee: A non-refundable, one-time fee of US$40.

How to Apply:
You have two convenient options:
  1. Apply Online: The quickest and easiest way to obtain your visa is through our secure online portal.
  2. Through Aten Bhutan Tours. We can apply on your behalf.

Applying Online: What You'll Need
To complete your online application, please have the following readily available:
  • A digital scan or photo of your valid passport.
  • A recent digital passport-sized photograph.
  • Your planned arrival and departure dates.
  • Your credit card details: We recommend notifying your bank in advance about the international transaction to ensure smooth payment.

Easy Steps to Your Bhutan Visa:
  1. Sign Our Pledge of Friendship: Demonstrate your commitment to protecting, preserving, and contributing positively to our kingdom.
  2. Create an Account: Set up a secure account on our visa application portal.
  3. Enter Your Travel Information: Provide details about your travel plans and personal information.
  4. Pay Your Fees: Submit your visa application fee and SDF payment securely online.
You can save your application progress at any time and return to complete it later. Once submitted, your application will be reviewed within approximately five business days.

For Visitors from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives:
  • India: A permit is required. Apply online in advance or have your tour operator/hotel arrange it. No advance fees are payable. You can also apply upon arrival, but expect potential delays. If applying on arrival, bring a passport-size photo. The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is payable when applying for your permit (online or in person).
  • Bangladesh & Maldives: A visa is required. The process is the same as for Indian visitors: Apply online and pay the SDF.
